Jones called Aspinall's behavior selfish
May 10, 2024, 9:25 a.m.

Jon Jones, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, has spoken extensively about his bout with Tom Aspinall, the promotion's interim featherweight champion.

"Agree that his behavior is selfish. This guy - a perfectly healthy interim champion who is only 30 years old - is sitting around waiting for an opportunity to fight the winner of a fight between a 42-year-old man and a 36-year-old man. No one is stopping anyone, I'm on a mission. My goal is to make the fight with Stipe. But you're suggesting that I should neglect all the training I've been doing in the run-up to this fight and fight this "hype train" who may not be in the league in three years! I'm not going to change my plans because of anyone. Stipe is the best heavyweight to ever step into the octagon. My job is to give this guy what he wants and take his scalp to my collection. Whatever happens next, our fight will happen. Besides, I was talking about ending my career after the Stipe fight long before the UFC introduced the interim belt. And nothing would have changed if Sergey had it. I love that the Brits have convinced themselves that Jon Jones is afraid of their interim champion. It's opened up a whole new fan base for me. They all know who the real champion is."

Aspinall on the Jones fight: "I'll talk for hours about him if Jones signs a contract"
May 8, 2024, 1:53 p.m.

Tom Aspinall. The interim UFC heavyweight champion, has spoken out about a possible fight with the organization's current featherweight champion Jon Jones.

"If one day we can get Jon to sign a contract to fight me, I'll talk about him for hours. But as of right now, this guy is playing games again. Trying to convince the public what he wants and what he doesn't want. And he's very good at it. Like I said, we'll be able to talk about John when and if he signs a contract to fight me. Right now, let's be honest, it's unlikely," Aspinall said on the TNT Sports YouTube channel.

May 4, 2024, 6:43 a.m.

Jon Jones, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, spoke to a fight fan on social media about Tom Aspinall, the promotion's interim champion in the division.

Fan: "Tom is literally the interim UFC heavyweight champion."

Jones: "From my perspective, he's more of a number one contender after Stipe."

Aspinall didn't have anything to say in response, only adding a photo on social media of the moment he asks Jones about their fight.

Jones just recently had his first training session after a long layoff due to recovering from an injury. His next fight will be against Stipe Miocic, a former heavyweight champion.

Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall reacted to the news that former titleholder Cyril Gun declined to fight him at an upcoming event in Manchester because of a movie shoot.

"Cyril Gun declined the offer to fight Tom Aspinall in Manchester because of filming in the movie, - quoted the Briton news in the social network.- Does anyone know what movie Cyril is starring in?".

Recall, earlier Aspinall confirmed that he will appear on June 27 at the UFC 304 show in Manchester. The most likely candidate for the British opponent is now American Curtis Blades, to whom he lost early in July 2022 due to a leg injury.

Aspinall: "Fury can knock out Usik in the later rounds"
May 2, 2024, 4:11 a.m.

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall shared his expectations for the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight division title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, scheduled for May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

"I've sparred a lot with Tyson. This guy is a giant and when he starts applying pressure, it takes a lot of power to stop him. It will be very hard for Usik to do that for 12 rounds.

It would be foolish of me to bet against Fury. I'm a big Usik fan, but Tyson is my buddy, so I have to favor him. If Tyson forces Usik to back down - I'd say he wins by knockout in the later rounds. Round 10, 11, 12 - somewhere in that neighborhood," Bloody Elbow quoted Aspinall as saying.
