Jake Paul: "I agreed to make it a pro fight"

Yesterday, Nakisa Bidarian, the promoter for YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, confirmed that the upcoming fight against boxing legend Mike Tyson will be an official professional bout. Set for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, this event is not only sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations but also it will be Netflix's first live sport broadcast.

Jake Paul expressed his enthusiasm about turning the match into a professional clash through "X" platform. "Mike Tyson wanted it to be a pro fight. Netflix wanted it to be a pro fight. So I agreed to make it a pro fight. Winner takes all," said Paul. He currently holds a record of 9-1 with notable victories against high-profile athletes such as Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva. This statement details Paul’s readiness and commitment to take on what could be his biggest challenge yet, despite losing his last match against Tommy Fury in 2023 via decision.

Mike Tyson, at over three decades older than Paul, has not fought professionally since his loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. Known for his extraordinary boxing career with 50 total wins including a knockout win against Clifford Etienne in February 2003, his return to the ring adds an intriguing angle given his long absence and publicized health issues.

The promoters through Most Valuable Promotions have diligently worked over six weeks coordinating with multiple partners and satisfying the stringent requirements of TDLR. "Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome," stated Nakisa Bidarian according to ESPN coverage.

The event structure includes eight two-minute rounds using 14-ounce gloves which aligns more closely with traditional professional bouts rather than exhibition standards.
